Co-operation and Community “Every idea, no matter how powerful,
has its limits”
Natural
& social sciences On Co-operation and
Community the natural sciences are used to explore co-operation among living
organisms, including human beings. Can
evolution explain the origins of co-operation? The social sciences are
used to explore the idea of community.
It is a pervasive idea, but it is elusive. How far can it go? Is there such a thing as community? One question can lead to
another. For example: why do people
associate with each other in groups?
Are relationships with other people ends in themselves, or social
means to individual ends? Biology,
psychology, sociology and political philosophy are drawn on to explore these
questions.
